Two pedestrians who were hit by a car while trying to cross the street in ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ are stable after the Wednesday evening incident.
It was about 5:30 p.m. when the pedestrians, whose identities have not been released, were using the crosswalk on West Fleming Drive at the entrance to the North Carolina School for the Deaf and a westbound vehicle hit them, according to information from the ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Department of Public Safety.
West Fleming Drive was shut down Wednesday evening after two pedestrians were hit trying to cross the road.

Both pedestrians were taken to a local hospital, public safety said. One was transferred to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
Public Safety Capt. Josiah Brown said the pedestrian who was taken to Wake Forest Baptist was seriously injured but their condition was stable late Wednesday night.
Bryan Gilmer, associate vice chancellor for public affairs and chief communications officer for the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics, said the two pedestrians hurt in the crash were students of the school’s ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ campus.
He said the school had staff members accompany the students to the hospital after the crash, and staff are working with the students’ families.
“As a residential school, we are intentional about being staffed with great counseling support for our students, and to this point, that team is able to support students’ needs,†Gilmer said. “We are standing by to supplement their efforts with colleagues from our Durham campus or outside resources if needed.â€
The driver of the vehicle, 42-year-old Trisha Crutchfield, was charged with failing to yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk and failing to stop for a red light.
