Rio Grande Valley, TX, January 31, 2025 — A joint anti-smuggling operation by Texas Department of Public Safety (TxDPS) troopers and U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) agents led to the arrest of a smuggling guide from Mexico and an illegal immigrant from El Salvador. The two were found hiding in the brush after crossing the Rio Grande. The smuggling guide, identified as a confirmed member of the Paisa gang, was charged with smuggling and unlawful entry. Authorities say the operation is part of ongoing efforts to prevent illegal border crossings and stop smugglers from moving further into the U.S. interior.
